Multia, founded in 1868, is a rural municipality in Central Finland, located 20km from the town of Keuruu and 60km from Jyväskylä. Multia has some 1800 inhabitants. During the summer months the population rises when the summer residents come to their leisure homes. Surrounded by three lakes, the center of Multia offers all basic services, such as a grocery store, pharmacy, health care center, bank and postal services. Other services include a barber shop, camping site and motel, a coffee shop, clothing store, and a candle foundry and shop to mention a few. There are several entrepreneurs offering accommodation in different settings.
Multia lives from its surrounding nature, whether it is agriculture, forestry or tourism. For a traveler seeking fresh air and clean waters, Multia has a lot to offer. For a fisherman or a canoeist we have lakes, ponds and rivers with over 30 rapids. For a hiker we have several marked nature trails and plenty more unmarked to discover. In Sahrajärvi there is the highest point of the southern part of Finland, Kiiskilänmäki (268m from sea level) with its watchtower and the highest water system Niemilampi (243m from sea level). Some of our nature sights are suitable for persons with reduced mobility, all are suitable for children, though adult supervision is always needed. None of the sights are completely wheel chair accessible.
Despite its small population, Multia is a very active village. As a testament to which we proudly present our yearly events Multiaista Satoa -festival since 1998, and the kick sled World Championship since 1988.
